I witnessed Muawiyah Ibn Abu Sufyan رضی اللہ عنہ asking Zayd Ibn Arqam رضی اللہ عنہ : Did you offer along with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم the Friday and Eid prayers synchronised on the same day? He said: Yes. He asked: How did he do? He replied: He offered the Eid prayer, then granted concession to offer the Friday prayer, and said: If anyone wants to offer it, he may offer.
