Chapter 3 · Knowledge
Sahih

What is mentioned about handing over (written material) and the scholars' writing of knowledge to (other) lands

Translation

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet ﷺ wrote a letter – or intended to write – and it was said to him, “They do not read a letter unless it is sealed.” So he took a signet ring of silver engraved with “Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah.” It is as if I am looking at its whiteness on his hand.

Translator’s note: “They”: the (foreign) rulers to whom the letter was addressed.

Other translations

Deutsch

Enes b. Mâlik (r.a.) Kendisine, “Onlar mühürlü olmayan mektubu okumazlar” denildi. Bunun üzerine gümüşten bir mühür yüzüğü edindi; nakşı “Muhammed Resûlullah” idi. Elindeki beyazlığına hâlâ bakıyor gibiyim.

Translator’s note: “Onlar”: mektubun gönderildiği (yabancı) hükümdarlar.
