Kapitel 20 · Tribute, Spoils, and Rulership (Kitab Al-Kharaj, Wal-Fai' Wal-Imarah)مَا جَاءَ فِي خَبَرِ الطَّائِفِ
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ، حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَقِيلِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا عَنْ شَأْنِ ثَقِيفٍ إِذْ بَايَعَتْ، قَالَ: اشْتَرَطَتْ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ لَا صَدَقَةَ عَلَيْهَا وَلَا جِهَادَ، وَأَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ: سَيَتَصَدَّقُونَ وَيُجَاهِدُونَ إِذَا أَسْلَمُوا .

The Conquest Of At-Ta'if
I asked Jabir رضی اللہ عنہ about the condition of Thaqif when they took the oath of allegiance. He said: They stipulated to the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم that there would be no sadaqah (i.e. zakat) on them nor Jihad (striving in the way of Allah). He then heard the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say: Later on they will give sadaqah (zakat) and will strive in the way of Allah when they embrace Islam.
