Chapter 6 · Menstrual Periods
Sahih

Whoever calls postnatal bleeding menstruation

Translation

Umm Salamah reported: While I was lying with the Prophet ﷺ under a woollen cover, I got my menses. So I slipped away and took the clothes I wore during menstruation. He said, “Have you got your menses?” I said, “Yes.” Then he called me, and I lay down with him under the cover.

Translator’s note: The first cover is called khamisah in Arabic (a patterned woollen cloth), the second khamilah (a cloth with a pile). The word for “getting one's menses” is related to the word for postnatal bleeding; the chapter heading refers to this.

Other translations

Deutsch

Ümmü Seleme (r.a.) şöyle rivayet etti: Ben Nebî ﷺ ile birlikte yünden bir örtünün altında yatarken hayız oldum. Hemen sıvışıp hayız elbiselerimi aldım. “Hayız mı oldun?” buyurdu. “Evet” dedim. Beni çağırdı, ben de onunla birlikte örtünün altına yattım.

Translator’s note: İlk örtü Arapçada hamîsa (desenli yün örtü), ikincisi hamîle (havlı örtü) diye geçer. “Hayız olmak” için kullanılan kelime, lohusalık (nifas) kelimesiyle aynı köktendir; bab başlığı buna işaret eder.
