Chapter 10 · Call to Prayers (Adhaan)
Sahih

The obligation of praying in congregation

Translation

Abu Hurairah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, I was about to order firewood to be gathered, then to order the prayer and have the adhan called for it, then to order a man to lead the people in prayer, and then to go to men (who stay away) and burn their houses down upon them. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if one of them knew that he would find a meaty bone or two good trotters, he would attend the Isha prayer.”

Translator’s note: The Arabic word for “trotters” (mirmat) is also explained as (target) arrows.

Abu Hurairah reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “No prayer is heavier upon the hypocrites than the Fajr prayer and the Isha prayer. If they knew what is in them, they would come to them even if crawling. I was about to order the caller to …
