Chapter 2 · The Book of Faithحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ جَرِيرٍ، ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، كُلُّهُمْ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، قُلْ لِي فِي الْإِسْلَامِ قَوْلًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَكَ - وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ غَيْرَكَ - قَالَ: قُلْ: آمَنْتُ بِاللهِ، فَاسْتَقِمْ.

I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to tell me about Islam a thing which might dispense with the necessity of my asking anybody after you. In the hadith of Abu Usama the (words) are: other than you. He (the Holy Prophet ﷺ) remarked: Say I affirm my faith in Allah and then remain steadfast to it.

Sufyan ibn Abdullah Ath-Thaqafi berichtete: Ich sagte: „O Gesandter Allahs, nenne mir bezüglich des Islam eine grundlegende Aussage, worüber ich nach dir niemanden mehr fragen muss“ – und in der Überlieferung von Abu Usama: „außer dir“. Er (ﷺ) sprach: „Sag: ‚Ich habe den Iman an Allah (den Glauben an Allah) verinnerlicht‘, und sei dann standhaft (Istiqamah).“

Sufyan ibn Abdullah es-Sakafi (r.a.) şöyle anlattı: "Ey Allah'ın Resulü!" dedim, "Bana İslam'a dair öyle bir esas söyle ki, senden sonra artık kimseye sorma ihtiyacı duymayayım" – Ebu Usame’nin rivayetinde ise: "senden başkasına". Bunun üzerine O (ﷺ) buyurdu: "De ki: 'Allah'a iman ettim' ve sonra (bu yolda) dosdoğru ol/istikamet üzere kal."
