Chapter 8 · Prayers (Salat)
Sahih

Translation

Ibn Mas'ud reported: The Prophet ﷺ prayed – Ibrahim said: I do not know whether he added or omitted something – and when he had said the salam, it was said to him, “O Messenger of Allah, has anything new been introduced in the prayer?” He said, “And what is that?” They said, “You prayed such and such.” So he folded his legs, faced the qiblah, made two prostrations and then said the salam. When he turned his face towards us, he said, “If anything new had been introduced in the prayer, I would have informed you of it. But I am only a human being like you; I forget as you forget. So when I forget, remind me. And when one of you is in doubt in his prayer, let him strive for what is correct and complete (his prayer) on that basis, then say the salam, then make two prostrations.”

Translator’s note: Ibrahim (an-Nakha'i) is a later narrator of this hadith; he was unsure whether the Prophet ﷺ prayed too much or too little. The two prostrations are the prostrations of forgetfulness.

Deutsch

İbn Mes'ûd (r.a.)

Ibn Mas'ud reported: The Prophet ﷺ prayed the Zuhr prayer with five (rak'ahs). They said, “Has something been added to the prayer?” He said, “And what is that?” They said, “You prayed five.” So he folded his legs and made two prostrations.
