قَوْلِ الرَّجُلِ فَاتَتْنَا الصَّلاَةُ

A man's saying, “The prayer has escaped us”

بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ نُصَلِّي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذْ سَمِعَ جَلَبَةَ رِجَالٍ فَلَمَّا صَلَّى قَالَ " مَا شَأْنُكُمْ ". قَالُوا اسْتَعْجَلْنَا إِلَى الصَّلاَةِ. قَالَ " فَلاَ تَفْعَلُوا، إِذَا أَتَيْتُمُ الصَّلاَةَ فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّكِينَةِ، فَمَا أَدْرَكْتُمْ فَصَلُّوا وَمَا فَاتَكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا ".

Translation

Abu Qatadah reported: While we were praying with the Prophet ﷺ, he heard the commotion of men. When he had prayed, he said, “What is the matter with you?” They said, “We hurried to the prayer.” He said, “Do not do so. When you come to the prayer, keep to calm. Pray what you catch, and complete what you have missed.”
