Chapter 3 · Knowledge
The virtue of one who learns and teaches

Translation
Abu Musa al-Ash'ari reported: The Prophet ﷺ said: “The example of the guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like the example of abundant rain that fell on a land. Part of it was good soil that absorbed the water and brought forth pasture and much grass. Part of it was hard ground that held the water, and Allah benefited the people through it: they drank, gave (their animals) to drink and cultivated the land. And it fell on another part that was only barren plains, which neither hold water nor bring forth pasture. That is the example of one who gains understanding of the religion of Allah and benefits from what Allah has sent me with, so he learns and teaches; and the example of one who does not raise his head for it and does not accept the guidance of Allah with which I have been sent.”

Ebû Mûsâ el-Eş'arî (r.a.)
