  أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَوَجَدْتُهُ يَسْتَنُّ بِسِوَاكٍ بِيَدِهِ يَقُولُ " أُعْ أُعْ "، وَالسِّوَاكُ فِي فِيهِ، كَأَنَّهُ يَتَهَوَّعُ.

  Abu Musa al-Ash'ari reported: I came to the Prophet ﷺ and found him cleaning his teeth with a tooth-stick (siwak) in his hand. He was saying, “U', u',” with the tooth-stick in his mouth, as if he were retching.

  مَا أَعْرِفُ شَيْئًا مِمَّا كَانَ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم. قِيلَ الصَّلاَةُ. قَالَ أَلَيْسَ ضَيَّعْتُمْ مَا ضَيَّعْتُمْ فِيهَا.

  Anas ibn Malik reported: I do not recognize anything of what there was in the time of the Prophet ﷺ. It was said, “The prayer?” He said, “Have you not neglected in it what you have neglected?”
