Abu Huraira berichtete: Der Prophet ﷺ saß eines Tages sichtbar unter den Leuten, da kam Dschibril (Gabriel) zu ihm und sagte: „Was ist der Glaube?“ Er sagte: „Der Glaube ist, dass du an Allah glaubst, an Seine Engel, an die Begegnung mit Ihm und an Seine Gesandten, und dass du an die Auferweckung glaubst.“ Er sagte: „Was ist der Islam?“ Er sagte: „Der Islam ist, dass du Allah dienst und Ihm nichts beigesellst, das Gebet verrichtest, die vorgeschriebene Zakat entrichtest und den Ramadan fastest.“ Er sagte: „Was ist das vollkommene Tun (Ihsan)?“ Er sagte: „Dass du Allah dienst, als ob du Ihn sähest; und wenn du Ihn auch nicht siehst, so sieht Er dich doch.“ Er sagte: „Wann ist die Stunde?“ Er sagte: „Der Befragte weiß darüber nicht mehr als der Fragende. Aber ich werde dir von ihren Vorzeichen berichten: wenn die Sklavin ihren Herrn gebiert und wenn die namenlosen Kamelhirten einander im Bauen überbieten. Sie gehört zu fünf Dingen, die niemand außer Allah weiß.“ Dann rezitierte der Prophet ﷺ: „Gewiss, bei Allah ist das Wissen über die Stunde“ – den (ganzen) Vers. Dann wandte er sich ab, und (der Prophet) sagte: „Bringt ihn zurück!“ Doch sie sahen nichts. Da sagte er: „Das war Dschibril; er kam, um die Menschen ihre Religion zu lehren.“

Abu Hurairah reported: One day the Prophet ﷺ was sitting out among the people when Jibril (Gabriel) came to him and said, “What is faith (iman)?” He said, “Faith is that you believe in Allah, His angels, the meeting with Him and His messengers, and that you believe in the resurrection.” He said, “What is Islam?” He said, “Islam is that you worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, establish the prayer, pay the obligatory Zakat and fast Ramadan.” He said, “What is excellence (ihsan)?” He said, “That you worship Allah as though you see Him; and though you do not see Him, He surely sees you.” He said, “When is the Hour?” He said, “The one asked about it knows no more than the one asking. But I will tell you of its signs: when the slave woman gives birth to her master, and when the obscure herdsmen of camels compete with one another in building. It is among five things that no one knows except Allah.” Then the Prophet ﷺ recited, “Indeed, with Allah is the knowledge of the Hour” – the (whole) verse. Then he turned away, and (the Prophet) said, “Bring him back.” But they saw nothing. Then he said, “That was Jibril; he came to teach the people their religion.”
