Chapter 3 · Knowledge
Memorising knowledge

Translation
Abu Hurairah reported: People say: “Abu Hurairah narrates a lot.” Were it not for two verses in the Book of Allah, I would not have narrated a single hadith. Then he recited: “Indeed, those who conceal what We have sent down of clear proofs” up to His words: “the Most Merciful.” Our brothers among the Emigrants were kept busy by striking deals in the markets, and our brothers among the Ansar were kept busy by working on their property. But Abu Hurairah used to stay close to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, (content) with what filled his stomach; he was present when they were not present, and he memorised what they did not memorise.

Ebû Hüreyre (r.a.)
