Chapter 4 · Ablutions (Wudu')
Sahih

Rinsing the mouth during ablution

Translation

Humran ibn Aban reported that he saw Uthman call for water for ablution (wudu). He poured from his vessel over his hands and washed them three times. Then he put his right hand into the water, then rinsed his mouth, sniffed water into his nose and blew it out. Then he washed his face three times and his arms up to the elbows three times. Then he wiped over his head. Then he washed each foot three times. Then he said: I saw the Prophet ﷺ perform ablution like this ablution of mine, and he said, “Whoever performs ablution like this ablution of mine and then prays two rak'ahs in which he does not talk to himself, Allah will forgive him his past sins.”

Translator’s note: “Does not talk to himself”: does not let his thoughts dwell on worldly matters.
