Chapter 2 · Belief
Sins are among the matters of the Jahiliyyah

Translation
Al-Ma'rur ibn Suwayd reported: I met Abu Dharr at ar-Rabadhah. He was wearing a garment, and his servant was wearing a garment too. I asked him about that, and he said, “I insulted a man and taunted him about his mother. So the Prophet ﷺ said to me, ‘O Abu Dharr, did you taunt him about his mother? You are a man in whom there is (still) Jahiliyyah. Your brothers are your servants; Allah has placed them under your hands. So whoever has his brother under his hand, let him feed him from what he eats and clothe him from what he wears. And do not burden them with what overwhelms them; and if you do burden them, then help them.’”
Translator’s note: Jahiliyyah: the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. The garment (hullah) is a matching two-piece set.

Ona bunun sebebini sordum. Şöyle dedi: “Bir adamla sövüştüm ve onu annesiyle ayıpladım. Bunun üzerine Nebî ﷺ bana şöyle buyurdu: ‘Ey Ebû Zer! Onu annesiyle mi ayıpladın? Sen kendisinde (hâlâ) cahiliye bulunan bir adamsın. Kardeşleriniz sizin hizmetçilerinizdir; Allah onları sizin elinizin altına vermiştir. Kimin kardeşi elinin altında ise, yediğinden ona yedirsin, giydiğinden ona giydirsin. Onlara güçlerinin yetmeyeceği işleri yüklemeyin; eğer yüklerseniz onlara yardım edin.’”
Translator’s note: Cahiliye: İslâm öncesi bilgisizlik dönemi. Hulle: iki parçadan oluşan takım elbise.
