Sahih

The menstruating woman's leaving the fast

Translation

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out on (the day of) al-Adha – or al-Fitr – to the prayer ground. He passed by the women and said, “O women, give charity (sadaqah), for I was shown that you are the majority of the people of the Fire.” They said, “And why is that, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “You curse a great deal and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone deficient in intellect and religion more able to take away the mind of a resolute man than one of you.” They said, “And what is the deficiency of our religion and our intellect, O Messenger of Allah?” He said, “Is not the testimony of a woman like half the testimony of a man?” They said, “Yes.” He said, “That is part of the deficiency of her intellect. Is it not so that when she menstruates she does not pray and does not fast?” They said, “Yes.” He said, “That is part of the deficiency of her religion.”

Translator’s note: On the testimony of two women in place of one man, cf. Qur'an 2:282.

Koran 2:282.

Türkçe

Ebû Saîd el-Hudrî (r.a.)
