The qiblah of the people of Madinah, the people of Syria and the East

Translation

Abu Ayyub reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “When you go to relieve yourselves, do not face the qiblah nor turn your backs to it, but face east or west.” Abu Ayyub said: We came to Syria and found toilets that had been built facing the qiblah, so we would turn away (from it) and ask Allah the Exalted for forgiveness.

Translator’s note: For the people of Madinah the qiblah lies to the south, so east and west turn away from it.

Other translations

Deutsch
