Mosques in houses

Translation

Itban ibn Malik reported that he came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, my eyesight has become weak, and I lead my people in prayer. When the rains come, the valley between me and them floods, and I cannot come to their mosque to lead them in prayer. I would love, O Messenger of Allah, for you to come to me and pray in my house, so that I may take it as a place of prayer.” He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, “I will do so, if Allah wills.” Itban said: So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr came in the morning when the day had risen high. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked for permission, and I gave him permission. He did not sit down until he had entered the house, then he said, “Where in your house would you like me to pray?” He said: So I pointed out to him a corner of the house. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood and said the takbir, and we stood and formed a row, and he prayed two rak'ahs, then said the salam. He said: And we kept him for some khazirah that we had made for him. He said: Then a number of men from the people of the neighbourhood came to the house and gathered. One of them said, “Where is Malik ibn ad-Dukhayshin?” – or: Ibn ad-Dukhshun. One of them said, “That is a hypocrite; he does not love Allah and His Messenger.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Do not say that. Do you not see that he has said ‘There is no god but Allah’, seeking thereby the Face of Allah?” He said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” He said, “But we see his attention and his sincere counsel directed towards the hypocrites.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Allah has indeed forbidden to the Fire whoever says ‘There is no god but Allah’, seeking thereby the Face of Allah.”

Translator’s note: Khazirah: a dish of small pieces of meat cooked with flour. “Seeking the Face of Allah”: doing something sincerely for the sake of Allah.

Mâlik (r.a.), Resûlullah'a ﷺ gelip şöyle dediğini rivayet etti: “Ey Allah'ın Resûlü, gözlerim zayıfladı.
