Translation
Abu Hurairah reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in one of the two afternoon prayers – Ibn Sirin said: Abu Hurairah named it, but I forgot. He said: He prayed two rak'ahs with us and then said the salam. Then he stood up (and went) to a piece of wood lying crosswise in the mosque and leaned on it, as if he were angry. He placed his right hand on his left, interlaced his fingers, and placed his right cheek on the back of his left hand. The hasty ones went out through the doors of the mosque and said, “The prayer has been shortened.” Among the people were Abu Bakr and Umar, but they were too much in awe of him to speak to him. Among the people was also a man with long hands who was called Dhul-Yadayn. He said, “O Messenger of Allah, did you forget, or has the prayer been shortened?” He said, “I did not forget, and it has not been shortened.” Then he said, “Is it as Dhul-Yadayn says?” They said, “Yes.” So he stepped forward and prayed what he had left out, then said the salam, then said the takbir and prostrated like his (usual) prostration or longer, then raised his head and said the takbir; then he said the takbir and prostrated like his prostration or longer, then raised his head and said the takbir. Sometimes they would ask him (Ibn Sirin), “Then he said the salam?” and he would say, “I was told that Imran ibn Husayn said, ‘Then he said the salam.’”
Translator’s note: Meaning the Zuhr or the Asr prayer. Dhul-Yadayn means “the one with the two hands”.

Ebû Hüreyre (r.a.)
