Chapter 10 · Call to Prayers (Adhaan)
Sahih

Whether the imam prays with those present, and whether he delivers the sermon on Friday in the rain

Translation

Abdullah ibn al-Harith reported: Ibn Abbas addressed us on a muddy day. When the caller to prayer reached “Come to the prayer,” he gave him an order; he said, “Say: The prayer (is) in the dwellings!” They looked at one another as if they disapproved. He said, “It is as if you disapprove of this. One who is better than me did this – meaning the Prophet ﷺ. It is an obligation, and I did not want to put you in difficulty.” … “I did not want to make you fall into sin, so that you would come wading through the mud up to your knees.”

Translator’s note: “An obligation” refers to the Friday prayer. The part after “…” is the differing wording of another transmission (Hammad via Asim from Abdullah ibn al-Harith from Ibn Abbas).

Other translations

Deutsch

Abdullah b. Hâris şöyle rivayet etti: İbn Abbâs (r.a.) … “Sizi günaha sokmak istemedim; yoksa dizlerinize kadar çamura bata çıka gelecektiniz.”

Translator’s note: “Farz” sözü Cuma namazına işarettir. “…” işaretinden sonraki kısım, başka bir rivayetin (Hammâd, Âsım kanalıyla Abdullah b. Hâris'ten, o da İbn Abbâs'tan) farklı lafzıdır.
