Sahih

The saying of the Prophet ﷺ: “Many a one to whom something is conveyed understands it better than one who heard it.”

Translation

Abu Bakrah reported: The Prophet ﷺ sat on his camel while someone held it by its halter – or its rein. He said, “What day is this?” We remained silent until we thought he would call it by a name other than its own. He said, “Is it not the Day of Sacrifice?” We said, “Yes indeed.” He said, “And what month is this?” We remained silent until we thought he would call it by another name. He said, “Is it not Dhu al-Hijjah?” We said, “Yes indeed.” He said, “Your blood, your property and your honour are sacred to you among yourselves, like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. Let the one who is present convey it to the one who is absent, for perhaps the one present will convey it to someone who will understand it better than he.”

Ebû Bekre (r.a.)
