Chapter 3 · Knowledge
Anger in admonition and teaching when one sees something one dislikes

Translation
Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani reported that a man asked the Prophet ﷺ about a found item. He said: “Note its tie – or he said: its container – and its pouch. Then announce it for a year; then make use of it. If its owner comes, give it back to him.” He said: “And a stray camel?” He became angry until his cheeks turned red – or he said: until his face turned red – and said: “What have you to do with it? It has its water supply and its shoes with it; it comes to water and grazes on the trees. So leave it until its owner finds it.” He said: “And a stray sheep?” He said: “(It is) for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf.”
Translator’s note: Its water supply and shoes refer to the camel's ability to go long without water and to its hooves.

Zeyd b. Hâlid el-Cühenî (r.a.)
