Sahih

Modesty in (seeking) knowledge

Translation

Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Among the trees there is a tree whose leaves do not fall, and it is like the Muslim. Tell me which it is.” The people's thoughts went to the trees of the desert, and it occurred to me that it was the date palm. Abdullah said: But I felt shy. Then they said, “O Messenger of Allah, tell us which it is.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “It is the date palm.” Abdullah said: I told my father what had occurred to me, and he said, “That you had said it would be dearer to me than to have such and such.”

Translator’s note: Abdullah is Ibn Umar; his father is Umar ibn al-Khattab.

Deutsch

İbn Ömer (r.a.)
