Chapter 4 · Ablutions (Wudu')
Sahih

Washing the feet in sandals; one does not wipe over the sandals

Translation

Ubayd ibn Jurayj reported that he said to Abdullah ibn Umar, “O Abu Abd ar-Rahman, I have seen you do four things which I have not seen any of your companions do.” He said, “And what are they, O Ibn Jurayj?” He said, “I have seen that you touch none of the corners (of the Kaaba) except the two Yemeni ones. I have seen you wear Sibti sandals. I have seen you dye with yellow. And I have seen that when you were in Makkah, the people raised the talbiyah when they saw the new moon, but you yourself did not raise it until the Day of Tarwiyah came.” Abdullah said, “As for the corners, I did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ touch any except the two Yemeni ones. As for the Sibti sandals, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wear sandals that had no hair on them, and he would perform ablution (wudu) in them, so I love to wear them. As for the yellow, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dye with it, so I love to dye with it. And as for raising the talbiyah, I did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raise it until his mount set off with him.”

Translator’s note: The two Yemeni corners are the corner of the Black Stone and the Yemeni corner of the Kaaba. Sibti sandals are made of tanned leather with the hair removed. Whether the hair or the clothing was dyed yellow is disputed among scholars. The Day of Tarwiyah is the 8th of Dhul-Hijjah.

Dhu l-Hiddscha.

Türkçe

Ubeyd b. Cüreyc, Abdullah b. Ömer'e (r.a.)

Translator’s note: İki Yemânî köşe, Kâbe'nin Hacerülesved köşesi ile Rükn-i Yemânî'dir.
